Fishing on Canyon Lake
Most Ontario lakes have good fishing. Canyon Lake is rated up there as one of the best. The average size Walleye is 1 ½ to 2 lbs with many going over 10 lbs.
Smallmouth is known as a battler when hooked. Canyon Lake has some of the best Smallmouth fishing in the area. The rocky shorelines and underwater rock structure is where you will find Smallmouth action. The Smallmouth average 3 to 4 lbs with lunkers in 5 to 6 lb range being caught.
The Muskie, much sought after by many fishermen calls Canyon Lake its home and is here in large numbers. Muskies in the 15 to 20 lb range are common, with 35 to 40 lb range being caught each year. If you are looking to catch that dream monster of a fish Canyon Lake gives you the best chance of fulfilling that dream. The Muskie is known to be the fish of a thousand casts. This doesn’t apply to Canyon Lake.
Regulations & Information
To fish or hunt in Ontario, most people need a valid license. This includes: 1) an Outdoors Card (valid for 3 calendar years) and 2) fishing and/or hunting license tags (valid for 1 or 3 calendar years). Canyon Lake Lodge is located in Zone 4 in Ontario. Please make sure to obtain the proper Canadian Fishing License – either Conservation or Sportsman – before you arrive at Canyon Lake Lodge.
Your chances of catching a Muskie on Canyon Lake are greater than anywhere else. Northern Pike was never present in Canyon Lake. Having moved in from other lakes they are now present, and a few have been caught. Canyon Lake has a great supply of Perch, Cisco, and Whitefish as a food base for the game fish in the lake.
- A Conservation license allows you two (2) Walleye, two (2) Smallmouth Bass, and two (2) Northern Pike in possession.
- The Sportsman license allows you four (4) Walleye, four (4) Smallmouth Bass, four (4) Northern Pike, one (1) Muskie, and two (2) Lake Trout in possession. Please call or email us if you would like further details.
Boats and Equipment
Boats are included in our housekeeping plans. The boat included in our plans are 16 ft Naden’s equipped with a 15 or 20hp motor. The boats have flat bottom floors and swivel seats for comfortable fishing. The Basic plan includes the boat and motor. The deluxe plan includes a boat, motor, trolling motor and fish finder.
If you wish to bring your own boat there is no charge for docking.

Of course you are welcome to bring your own boat to Canyon Lake Lodge. Docking is free.
