Fishing on Canyon Lake

Even the smallest bit of research will confirm that most Ontario lakes provide great Walleye fishing; Canyon Lake is definitely no exception, as the long and narrow lake is full of hidden bays, deep weed beds, islands and reefs; there is plenty of ideal structure to make fishing here an incredible adventure.

The average-size Walleye is 1 ½ to 2 lbs. Many are much bigger, and some can exceed 10lbs! If it’s Smallmouth you’re after, you’ll be happy to know that 3-4 pounders are to be had throughout the season. But 5-6 lb. hogs are not uncommon. When it comes to bronze-backs, Canyon Lake is one of the best around.

Is it Muskies you’re after? Well, you’ve come to the right place! It has been said that: ”your chances of catching a Muskie here on Canyon Lake are greater than anywhere else. You will have to look long and hard to find a better Muskie lake anywhere, if one exists.”

For the avid Musky hunter, know that Canyon Lake is one of the most productive Musky lakes anywhere in Ontario. Generally, fish in the 15-20 lb. range are common... But there are also trophies lurking out there in the 40-plus lb class that are caught and released every year.

This includes: 1) an Outdoors Card (valid for 3 calendar years) and 2) fishing and/or hunting licence tags (valid for 1 or 3 calendar years).  More information about these two items can be found on the MNR's Ontario Fishing Regulations Page.

It's also important for you to know that -- as stated on the Policies/FAQs page of our site -- Canyon Lake Lodge is located in Zone 4 in Ontario. Please make sure to obtain the proper Canadian Fishing License – either Conservation or Sportsman – before you arrive at Canyon Lake Lodge.

Types of Fishing Licences

  • The Sportsman license allows you four (4) Walleye, four (4) Smallmouth Bass, four (4) Northern Pike, one (1) Muskie, and two (2) Lake Trout in possession. Please call or email us if you would like further details.
